Women's Basketball: #8 Lady Wave win battle of ranked teams, defeat #7 undefeated Hostos Lady Caiman

Bronx, NY - The #8 ranked Kingsborough Lady Wave headed up to Hostos to take on the #7 ranked Lady Caiman in a highly anticipated matchup. The undefeated Lady Caiman handed the Lady Wave their only loss early in the season.

Early in the game Hostos grabbed an early 5-0 lead, but Endya Greene responded with a three, followed by a layup to get Kingsborough on the board. Kayla Wilson then connected from deep, giving the Wave the upper hand and grabbing the lead to end the 1??.

Jayden Vega opened the second quarter with a three, and Endya continued her strong play with another bucket, followed by Tionna Davis knocking down points from the stripe. Greene mad an impact on defense with a steal and score, while Zakieya Williams attacked the rim and finished with a tough bucket inside, as the Lady Wave would carry a, 38-30 lead into the half.

In the third, the Lady Wave really pulled away as they were getting it done on both sides of the ball. Forcing the Lady Caiman to take low quality shots and creating points on the other end. They were also able to limit the amount of second chance points Hostos were able to create off offensive rebounds. Zakieya Williams also showed off her court vision with a beautiful assist to Endya Greene, then took matters into her own hands with another strong drive to the rim for two.

Early in the fourth quarter there was some excellent ball movement displayed by the Lady Wave as Williams found Jayden Vega, who dished it to Taima Flores for an easy two inside. The Lady Wave extended their lead up to 14-points with 8:50 remaining in the game. Endya Greene would go on to knock down a much needed three to cut a surging Hostos run who had cut the lead all the way down to 6-points. Zakieya Williams would get to the rim and secure the points and secure the and one opportunity. The Lady Caiman would not back down as they would cut the lead all the way down to 3-points, but the shot clock was off, and they would be forced to foul and do so by intentionally fouling Kayla Wilson. Wilson only needing to knock down one to essentially secure the win, clutches up and knocks down both and secures the win for the Lady Wave by a final of, 78-73.

The Lady Wave go into Hostos and take the hard-earned win and redeem their only loss this season and hand the Lady Caiman their first loss of the season. The Lady Wave will look to keep it going next time out when they head to Nassau to take on the Lady Lions.
