Brooklyn, NY - The Kingsborough Women's Volleyball team opened their season on Saturday with two quality opponents in a tri-match series with Monroe University Bronx and Northern Essex Community College. Kingsborough lost the first match to the four-time defending region 15 champions, the Monroe Bronx Express, before refocusing and putting up a much better effort in a hard-fought match loss against Northern Essex.
Kingsborough led the second set 22-18 before Northern Essex was able to real off the seven straight points and take the come-from-behind victory.
Olga Nesterova led in team assists with 9 in the second match against Northern Essex.
Daria Akhtiorsky led the team in kills on the day.
With such a young and inexperienced roster it was a fantastic challenge for newly hired head coach, Regina Sellitto, and her troops. The team will get back to work in preparation for their home match on Wednesday against the Queensborough Community College Tigers. The match will start at 6PM.
