Coach Sasso

Paul Sasso

Paul Sasso is the newly appointed KCC Pitching Coach, joining the KCC family for the start of the 2015 season.  Coach Sasso previously worked with the KCC Baseball team for a very brief stint before accepting the pitching coach position at SUNY Maritime in 2010.

At SUNY Maritime, Coach Paul Sasso had a track record of success.  In each of Coach Sasso’s five seasons coaching at Maritime, The Privateers qualified for the Skyline Conference Tournament each  season. The 2013 season was particularly successful ending in a deep playoff run that saw Maritime upend fourth-seeded St. Joseph's and third-seeded Purchase before being eliminated by Old Westbury.

Many of the successes that Maritime enjoyed could be attributed to Coach Sasso's pitching staffs.   Coach Sasso comes to KCC with the hope to establish a pitching staff who will be the strength of our program, as they were at SUNY Maritime.  During the 2014 season, the Privateer pitching staff earned 13 victories including the first two no-hitters in modern SUNY Maritime history.  One of Coach Sasso’s seniors even threw a perfect game on March 11, 2014 with another pitcher following up that performance with a complete game no-hitter  on April 5, 2014.  The highlight of the 2011 season was the pitching staff setting a Maritime best ERA under the tutelage of Coach Sasso.

“It takes a special coach to be a successful pitching coach because it requires managing the minds and emotions of young men,” says KCC Assistant Athletic Director, Keith Heron, “Perhaps no other position in sports requires such poise, fortitude and resiliency than a pitcher in baseball.  The ups and downs within each at bat and each game are endless.  Coaching a group of young pitchers is a delicate process, and Coach Sasso has a history of pushing the right buttons at the right time, yet not being too quick on the trigger.  I couldn’t be happier to have Coach Sasso join our squad, and lead our pitchers into battle. I know they will be ready”

Coach Sasso brings over 35 years of baseball coaching experience to The Wave Baseball Program, including the positions of pitching coach at Division II Molloy College in Rockville Centre, N.Y. under head coach Bernie Havern (10 seasons), pitching coach at Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville, N.Y. under head coach and 2012 New York State Coach of the Year Robert “Hondo” Malandro (two years),  head coach of three baseball organizations in Long Island and Brooklyn (20 years), and director of numerous camps and clinics across Long Island.  Coach Sasso has been part of 15 local and regional championship teams.

Paul Sasso currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Cadets Baseball Club, and works in the legal department of NYC Transit.  A lifetime Brooklynite, Coach Sasso attended Brooklyn College, played for the Brooklyn Bonnies and still lives in Brooklyn, NY.
