Wave Splits Series with Broncos 2-2

Games 2, 3, and 4 of the season series against the Bronx were played this weekend starting with a single game on Friday. Fridays game was won very decisively by the Bronx even after the Wave struck first in the opening frame. Saturday brought about a new day and 14 more innings of baseball in the Bronx between the two rivals. With the series tied 1-1 Joseph Liotta took the mound for Kingsborough to try and get a win.

Liotta threw a good game for the Wave giving up just one earned run in 7 innings. In fact after the 3rd inning the Bronx was not able to get on the board again, giving Kingsborough a chance to chip away at the Broncos 6-0 lead. The guys would get one run back in each inning thereafter through the 6th,  giving them a chance to tie it in the 7th down 6-3. The first two batters of the 7th, Jeremy Martinez and Justin Baierlein would go down but the next two batters, Juan Pilarte and Jimmy Daley would reach base on walks setting the table for the Waves hottest hitter this year, Christopher Armenti who represented the tying run. Armenti already had 2 hits in the game but unfortunately could not get the runs in, popping up to end the game. The game ended 6-3 Broncos.

The second game of the double header brought Sophomore Jimmy Daley to the rubber with battery mate Jeremy Martinez. Martinez started both ends of the double header behind the plate. After a rough first two innings in game one for Martinez and the Wave, the team settled down and outright dominated the next 12 innings of baseball. The Kingsborough offense exploded in the 2nd game of the doubleheader putting up 12 runs on 15 hits. Some of the young guys carried the offense today with Charles Cabranes, Joseph Liotta, and Joseph Capparelli all having 3 hits in the game. Capparelli went 5-7 on the day. Samuel Marquez also added two hits, one of them being an opposite field triple into the gap that plated 2, really helping to  break the game open for the Wave.

The Wave did a sensational job running the bases today, taking extra bases whenever they could and showing lots of energy late in the 2nd game. The boys really seamed to tire out there opponents with their energy and aggression especially late in the day. Pitcher Jimmy Daley did a great job throwing strikes today walking just 2 and going the distance for the win. Jimmy picked up his 2nd win this week after getting a win in game 1 of the series on Tuesday.

The guys finish their last series of the regular season against conference foe Queensborough this week. All 4 games will be played at home this week starting on Tuesday with a 4:00PM start. The Wave are in control of their own destiny at this point. If they can take 3 out of 4 in the series they guarantee themselves a spot in the CUNY championship game next week at MCU park in Coney Island as well as qualifying them for the Regional playoffs. Both which are the ultimate goals of the season for this team.
