The Wave played out their season series against Nassau Community College this weekend. The 2nd game of the series on Friday brought freshman Juan Pilarte to the mound as the starter for Kingsborough. The freshman showed a lot of promise on the mound. Juan left the ball up a bit in the game but was able to get a bunch of swings and misses despite it. The turning point in the game was in the home half of the 5th inning with 2 men on and shortstop Charles Cabranes at the plate. Cabranes hit a deep drive down the right field line that looked to have landed on the chalk about 300 feet away from the plate. The ball was called foul and the at bat continued.

Cabranes went on to strikeout and the inning later came to an end without the Wave scoring a run. The hit would have tied the game, put the go ahead run in scoring position and more importantly swung momentum on the Waves side.  Kingsborough never recovered from that heartbreak and went on to lose the game. Whether or not that ball was fair or foul will be forever between the ball and the foul line.

The last 2 games of the series were played Saturday afternoon at the Mitchell Sports Complex in Uniondale, Long Island. The Wave team was shorthanded without the services of Joseph Caparelli for the 6th game in a row, infielder Cesar Galan, and without the arm of Sophomore ace Christopher Armenti. Freshman catcher Jeremy Martinez left the game in the 4th inning of the first game to get x-rays on his swollen glove hand. The two games were completely one sided in favor of Nassau. The one bright spot for Kingsborough offensively was the bat of Samuel Marquez coming alive going 2-2 in the 2nd game against the Nassau ace. The Wave will be back in action on Monday at home against Globe and will begin their season series against Suffolk on Tuesday afternoon in Suffolk Long Island. X-rays on the hand of Jeremy Martinez were negative and he should be ready for action again Monday afternoon.
