Women's Basketball: Lady Wave lose Home Opener in Thriller to Lady Caiman

Brooklyn, NY - The Kingsborough Lady Wave opened their 2024-2025 season at home on Tuesday night, hosting the #15-ranked Hostos Lady Caimans. Kingsborough, ranked #12, and Hostos entered the game undefeated at 2-0, setting the stage for an exciting showdown.

In the first quarter, it was a tightly contested match-up as the Lady Caimans and Lady Wave traded baskets. Hostos struggled with ball control, committing nine turnovers in the
opening quarter, which led to multiple fast-break opportunities for Kingsborough. Endya Greene stood out early, weaving through two defenders to score a layup. Despite their
efforts, the Lady Wave trailed Hostos 16-12 at the end of the first.

Hostos started the second quarter strong, capitalizing on fastbreak points and free throws. However, the Kingsborough crowd quickly made their presence felt, rattling a Hostos player
into missing both free throws, which energized the Lady Wave. Feeding off the crowd's energy, Kingsborough gained momentum, highlighted by Zakieya Williams finding Jayden
Vega open in the corner for a three-pointer that sent the crowd into a frenzy. Hostos responded with a three-pointer of their own, but Vega hit another shot from the corner, this
time for two, as the crowd continued to roar. By halftime, the Lady Wave had narrowed Hostos' lead to 35-34.

The Caimans came out strong in the third quarter, quickly building a seven-point lead. Nevertheless, Greene, Williams, Vega, and Kayla Wilson each contributed offensively to
keep the game within reach. At the end of the third, the Lady Wave still trailed, 59-53.

Kingsborough surged at the beginning of the fourth quarter, fueled by the continued efforts of Greene and Williams, eventually taking a 69-64 lead with just over five minutes
remaining. However, a pivotal moment occurred when Greene made an impressive block at the other end but was charged with her fifth foul, causing her to foul out of the game. From
that point on, Hostos seized the momentum, going on a 20-9 run to close out the game and secure an 84-78 victory.

POTG: Endya Greene, 23 PTS, 5 REB, 4 STL, 75% FG
