The Kingsborough Wave are proud to announce the hiring of Regina Sellitto as the new head coach of the women's volleyball program.
Regina, who is known as "Genie," brings a strong background in education, player development, and competitive experience at both the high school and club levels, along with a clear vision for building a culture-driven and competitive program.
"I like the word grit, because it means I'm going to work, I'm going to fight for everything, and I'm going to build something and believe in myself," Regina said. "I'd like to see confident, strong athletes who believe in what they're doing and want to become great."
Regina emphasized a holistic coaching philosophy rooted in discipline, accountability, and growth both on and off the court. "How you show up to one thing is how you show up to all things," Regina said. "Greatness is something you develop. It's my job to bring it out in you. You show up like a champion wherever you go."
A longtime educator and former two-sport Division I student-athlete in softball and basketball, Regina has built her coaching career through both high school and club volleyball. She has coached within successful high school programs and currently holds leadership roles in club volleyball, helping develop athletes at the youth and high school levels while contributing to one of New York City's premier volleyball training environments.
Regina also expressed excitement about recruiting in Brooklyn and across New York City, with a focus on identifying athletes eager to compete and help build the program.
"I want to find out who's out there, who wants to be part of something special, and who wants to help us build something great here," Regina said.
To current and future student-athletes, Regina delivered a clear message about expectations and opportunity.
"Come back with a good attitude, a strong work ethic, and a winning mindset, and let's do something special," she said. "We're going to be playing good volleyball here. If you want to be part of something special, come find us."
Athletic Director Bobby Allison praised Regina's experience and leadership as key factors in the hiring decision.
"We are very excited to welcome someone with the experience and background that Regina brings to our athletic department here at Kingsborough," Allison said. "She was a two-sport Division I student-athlete and has coached at several levels, giving her a strong understanding of what it takes to compete and develop student-athletes."
"Regina also plays a key role in one of the premier volleyball clubs in New York City, and I've had the opportunity to see her coaching style firsthand. I couldn't be more impressed with her ability to teach the game and connect with her players. We're excited to begin a new era of Kingsborough Volleyball under her leadership."
Regina, who also works as a teacher, described herself as a passionate mentor committed to using sports as a tool for growth.
"I'm a teacher, a mom, and a passionate sports enthusiast," she said. "I love volleyball, and I think it can be life-changing. I want Kingsborough to be an exciting place to play volleyball."
