Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Brooklyn, NY -Â KCC wins a highly contested match against Bronx CC 3 sets to 2, solidifying the Wave's position ahead of the Bronx in both CUNYAC and Regional standings.
Â
KCC won the first set with little difficulty putting away the Broncos 25-14. But Bronx would not go down easy. Bronx then won two hard fought, but well deserved sets keeping the lead wire to wire. Despite KCC giving the Bronx all they had, the Wave came up short in both the 2
nd and 3
rd sets losing both by the same 22-25 score.
Â
In the fourth set, KCC got back their rythm and built up an early 9-0 lead, but Bronx made it interesting. In the end, the 4
th set went to KCC 25-17
Â
In the fifth set, played to 15-13, KCC jumped out to an earl 7-1 lead and it seemed like they would coast to an easy 5
th set and match victory. But Bronx would again not go down without a fight. With the score 13-12 in favor of KCC, a Bronx return was mishandled by KCC and sent sophomore
Pamela Martinez scrambling way out of bounds past the baseline to make a great diving save to fellow sophomore
Pik Ka Tang who was able to get it over the net back to the Bronx. KCC quickly regained their composure and as the ball came back over the net, sophomore
Stephanie Hahn set up
Pik Ka Tang for a vicious strike that would prove to be the match winning kill, giving the set and the match to KCC 15-12.

There is a strong likelihood of meeting Bronx again in the first round of the CUNY championships and possibly meeting them again in regional playoff action. If so, everyone will look back to this match and remember how hard fought it was. It would certainly be entertaining playoff volleyball to watch. "That was the type of victory that really brings a team together. There was everything… moments of dominance, moments of instability… but coming back from a 2 sets to 1 deficit shows that this team has a lot of heart." – Assistant AD
Keith HeronÂ
In the second match of the double header, an energized Wave team coming off their hard fought victory against the Bronx, beat Hostos in the first set 25-13, but dropped the 2
nd set 17-25. The wave then regrouped and were able to put away their CUNY rivals 25-15 and 25-18 for the win.  Â
Â
The Wave's next match comes against regional foe Suffolk CC at home on Tuesday,
10/6 at 7pm. This will be a big game for the Wave who have been unable to beat Suffolk CC in the past 3 seasons. The Wave enter the match with a record of 5-4 right on the heels of Suffolk with a region record of 3-2 on the season.
