Lou Shor started working for Kingsborough Athletics in 1969 and still works at the college in the department of health and physical education today.  During Lou’s time working for KCC Athletics, his most notable role was head baseball coach (1972-1979, 1983-1987), but he also served as the head soccer coach for two seasons and the assistant athletic director for three years as well.  Lou will be remembered as a charismatic leader of the young men he coached.

During his tenure as head baseball coach, Lou stressed sportsmanship.  It wasn’t enough for his teams to succeed in the win column; Lou wanted more for his players.  He wanted them to take memories and life lessons with them after they left Kingsborough Community College.  He cared very much for each player as an individual and was closely connected to each of the teams he coached.  During his 13 years coaching baseball at KCC, Lou led his team to 11 conference championships including an impressive streak of eight conference championships in a row (1972-1979), and three Region XV Championships as well.  Lou was also recognized as the 1972 Northeast District coach of the year when he led his team to a 5th place finish at the NJCAA Division III World Series.  Lou Shor’s record as the head coach of Kingsborough Athletics Baseball is an extraordinary 312 wins and 117 losses, that’s a career 73% winning percentage. While having success on the field, his young men followed Lou’s teachings and examples earning six team sportsmanship awards and they were also recognized as the sportsmanship award winners at the NJCAA World Series.

Lou was proud to see many of his young men go on to receive athletic scholarships to continue studying and playing baseball at the senior college level.  Several of his team members even made it all the way to the highest level of baseball possible, the Major Leagues.

We thank Lou for his years of service to KCC athletics, commend him on his efforts to mold his team members into successful and sportsmanlike young men, and applaud his phenomenal baseball coaching career.  It is our honor to induct Lou Shor into the KCC Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of its inaugural class.
