Dr. Rachelle Goldsmith started working for KCC Athletics as the cheerleading coach (1971-1976), and is still currently employed at Kingsborough Community College as the director of the honors program.  During her time working for KCC Athletics, Dr. Goldsmith was also the women’s tennis coach (1974) and intramural director (1975-1984).

Rachelle will mostly be remembered for her innovative work in intramurals.  Some of the intramural programs that Rachelle created at KCC over 30 years ago are striking similar to intramural events still held today.  First, Rachelle created a program that took place on Fridays in the late afternoon hours to provide fun and competitive intramural opportunities to as many students, faculty and staff as possible.  Today a similar program exists called Fun Fitness Fridays.  Dr. Goldsmith also created faculty/staff superstar events which had traveling trophies.  Today, a traveling trophy is given to the office who wins the faculty/staff basketball championship.  KCC Athletics also owes gratitude to Rachelle for being the first person to officially measure and mark the mileage distances on the paths around our campus that are still used for 1 and 2 mile runs today.  Rachelle was a true pioneer to the world of intramurals; decades later ideas she created and established are still in use!  Dr. Goldsmith also organized the first wheelchair intramural event, reached out to local businesses to secure prizes and awards for intramural event winners and created the first ever KCC Intramurals tee shirts.  Rachelle is proud of her work with the cheerleading team having one of the highest records in the nation.

We thank Rachelle for her years of service to KCC athletics, commend her on her efforts to revolutionize intramurals at KCC, and congratulate her on her success as a cheerleading coach for KCC Athletics.  It is our honor to induct Dr. Rachelle Goldsmith into the KCC Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of its inaugural class.
