Ray Miley Jr. is one of only two student-athletes being inducted into the KCC Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of its inaugural class.   Ray was a very well rounded runner on the track and  field team from 2004-2005.  Ray was a true team leader.  He accepted the challenge to race in any event that his coach (and current head coach) Dave Loobie asked him to run from sprints to long distance and any distance in between.  Ray’s events were the 400m, 500m, 600m, 800m, 1000m, 1500m, and the cross country races consisting of  2.5mi and 3.1mi each.  But Ray did not just run the races he was asked to run, he succeeded in all of them posting personal bests of 48.24s in the 400m and 1:53 in the 800m.

Ray remembers a meet that took place in Boston as a turning point in his track career.  It was a moment where everything started to click and from that moment on he never looked back. Then, at a meet in Alfred State, he was able to break the national and Kingsborough Athletics’ indoor 400m record setting the mark at 48.24s.  Said Ray, “For the first time, I ran the race I was coached to run.”  After all was said and done, Ray was won two national championships and was named an All-American three times.

During Ray’s successful track career, KCC Athletics’ head track & field coach, Dave Loobie, was in the beginning stages of molding the program to his standards of discipline, hard work and success.  Ray Miley was one of Coach Dave’s greatest successes, and Ray earned a scholarship to the University of South Carolina.  There Ray earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and also ran track & field at the NCAA Division I level.  Ray is thankful for not only coach Dave and all of the faculty and staff who mentored him, but also for his lifelong friends he has made while running track at KCC.

We thank Ray for being a trail blazer of our track and field program.  KCC Track & Field owes a part of its national recognition to Ray Miley and other athletes like him who let themselves be coached to achieve their full potential.  We wish Ray all the best in his future endeavors and it is our honor to induct Ray Miley into the KCC Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of its inaugural class.
